What is a Futurity Competition?
A Futurity, as it’s called within the industry, is a competition where 2 yr old bulls compete against each other. These bulls buck for 4 to 6 seconds, depending on the rules of the futurity, with a 25 pound dummy on their back that is remotely released after the 4 or 6 second buzzer. Each bull is judged in 5 categories (Buck, Kick, Spin, Intensity, & Degree of Difficulty) with each category having a possible score of 25 points for a perfect score of 100.

How much are the entry fees and how much can a Futurity Bull win?
Entry Fees at futurities range from $350 to $1,550 with the majority being $700. Prize money for the bull with the highest score ranges from $3,500 to $20,000. In 2008, The American Heritage Futurity, held in Ardmore, OK in May, paid over $100,000 to win 1st place! The ABBI (American Bucking Bull, Inc) Finals in Las Vegas pay a 1st place prize of $100,000 to the highest scoring futurity bull.

How many judges are there?
The number of judges ranges from 4 to 6 depending on the particular event and the total payout. If 6 judges are used, the highest and lowest scores are dropped and the middle 4 are added together. If only 4 judges are used, all their scores are added up for a total possible score of 100.
